HBA Approved is the UK's industry-led regulatory body for hair and beauty professionals, a trusted directory and growing platform that verifies and champions the very best in the industry.
In its early stages, HBA Approved will operate as a directory and quality-assurance initiative, highlighting verified businesses that meet high industry standards. By 2026, it will evolve into a comprehensive digital platform (website and app), enabling professionals to:
- Create and manage their own profiles
- Access insider resources and industry news
- Engage in peer-to-peer discussions through community forums
- Network and form meaningful industry connections
It is designed to elevate industry standards, combat unqualified practices, and protect the value of skilled professionals.
Approval Requirements
What Does it Take to Be HBA Approved?
For Salons & Sole Traders
- Must be a registered business
- Fully compliant with all relevant government policies
- Fully insured (public liability and employer’s liability if applicable)
- Qualified and/or accredited in all services offered
- Maintains accurate financial records and meets all obligations
Accepted Qualifications
- NVQ, City & Guilds, VTCT - recognised and approved qualifications
- Lash stylists may include ABT-accredited day courses
- CPD-only certificates are not accepted as core qualifications
- Certificates must clearly state the treatment area
- Qualifications must be Level 1/2 or above
For Training Providers
- Deliver in-person training at Level 3 or 4 (NVQ, City & Guilds, VTCT)
- Possess appropriate teaching and assessor qualifications
- Follow price guidelines (to be confirmed)
- Hold valid insurance for training activities
- Provide adequate, fit-for-purpose training space (details to be confirmed)
